Network Structure as an Enabler for Efficient Knowledge Transfer in Seaports
Background: Network structure plays an important role in the knowledge transfer among different organizations and entities (Reagans and McEvily 2003, p. 245). Different actors within a network can solve different, but interconnected problems (Lazer and Friedman 2007, p. 689). Strong ties within the network increases the degree of cooperation and visibility among its members. Therefore, knowledge transfer can utilize the network structure to strengthen the cooperation among stakeholders of a seaport.
Objective: The project aims at identifying and analysing the different types of network structure in order to suggest a network model for the knowledge transfer among stakeholders of a seaport.
Guidelines for the processing of the task:
Literature research of existing concepts of network structure and knowledge management
Determining the features of network structure that affect knowledge transfer
Development of a network model for the knowledge transfer with a focus on seaports
